ELAIN WINS
URDD EISTEDDFOD SCHOLARSHIP
It was announced at Urdd Gobaith Cymru's National Council on
Saturday, that the winner of this year's Urdd Eisteddfod Scholarship
is Elain Llwyd, an Year 13 pupil at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon.
Elain is currently sitting her A Level exams in Welsh, Drama and
Music. She has been singing, dancing and performing since a very
young age.
Elains wins the scholarship for her outstanding contribution to the
Urdd Eisteddfod at the Wales' Millennium Centre during Whitsun week.
She played the part of Eponine in the magnificent performance of Les
Miserables, and she was also a soloist in the highly acclaimed
opening concert. She won the 15-19 year old duet and the cerdd dant
duet, and she came second in the solo and the theatrical
presentation - Llew Memorial Award. She was also a member of Ysgol
Syr Huw Owen's winning choir. And to top it all she performed on the
Lanfa Stage in the Wales Millennium Centre foyer as well.
Siân Eirian, Urdd Gobaith Cymru's Eisteddfod and the Arts Director
says:
“The Urdd wishes to congratulate Elain warmly. We appreciate her
continuous dedication to the Urdd over the years, and this year, her
contribution to the success of the Eisteddfod was immense. I'm sure
she has a successful career to look forward to, and the Urdd wishes
her all the best in the future."
Elain wins £563, the residue of the following endowment funds - Sim
Davies Fund; Butlins Funds ; John Emlyn Thomas Memorial Fund; W.D.
Lewis Memorial Fund; John Morris Memorial Fund; John Haydn ac Ethel
Maud Thomas Memorial Fund; Henry, Elizabeth, Elfed ac Olwen Williams
Fund a D.J. Harries Memorial Fund.
