SPECSAVER’S SPONSORS URDD
OPENING CONCERT AT NATIONAL URDD EISTEDDFOD
Specsaver's Opticians which has 27 stores across South Wales will
sponsor the Urdd opening concert at the 2005 National Urdd
Eisteddfod.
The concert called Sain, Cerdd a Sioe will be held at the Donald
Gordon Theatre in the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday 29 May.
Members of the Urdd will join Welsh stars of stage and screen, past
winners of the Eisteddfod and the Urdd Youth Theatre, for a
colourful and theatrical presentation that will welcome the
Eisteddfod to the capital city and to a new look Eisteddfod.
This is a fantastic chance to see names like Aled Jones and Daniel
Evans who have gained so much from the Urdd join a cast of 300 young
people to sing some of the most popular songs from the musicals -
Cabaret, Les Miserables, Joseph and his technicoloured coat, Judas,
Nia Ben Aur and Chicago to name only a few.
Some past Urdd winners will also take part including Huw Aeron who
recently won a BAFTA, Mirain Haf, Catrin Evans, Catherine Ayres,
Aled Pedrick, Tara Bethan, Rhian Mair Lewis, CF1, Glanaethwy, Ysgol
Gymraeg Aberystwyth and Ysgol Melin Gruffydd.
Eurfyl Lewis, Director of Development for Urdd Gobaith Cymru said:

special concert at the Urdd 2005 National Eisteddfod. We would like

opening concert for this year’s pioneering Eisteddfod.”
Specsaver's Managing Director and Chairman Doug Perkins was born in
Ammanford, educated at Cardiff University and founded the UK’s
largest optical retailer in Swansea in 1984. Anne Lowndes, Regional
Chairman of Specsaver's in Wales, said the company remains proud of
its Welsh roots as well as a key community supporter:
“The Urdd National Eisteddfod is the key cultural event of the year
