What is the Urdd?

The aim of the Urdd is to

ensure that all the young people of Wales are given the opportunity, through the medium of the
Welsh language, to develop into mature individuals; and to empower them to play a constructive
role in the community, be encouraging personal and social skills



We achieve this aim for our 50,000 members through

Residential Centres
30,000 children and young people attend our residential centres in Glan-llyn, near Bala, and Llangrannog in West Wales each year. There they can enjoy sailing, skiing, swimming, climbing, horse riding, and lots more!

Sports
22,000 members take part in our sports competitions including swimming, football, hockey, netball,
bowling and cross country. We hold local and national competitions.

'Adrannau' and 'Aelwydydd'
Groups of children and young people meet in the Urdd's name across Wales under the guidance
of our volunteers, and the support of our 16 Development officers. There they have the opportunity
to take part in arts based activities and lots more…

Magazines
We produce three magazines monthly iaw! for secondary school learners Bore Da for learners
under 12 and Cip for children under 12.
