URDD EISTEDDFOD PAVILION ON THE UPThe residents of Ruthin will have one of the wonders of Wales sited amongst them from today (Thursday 11 May). A huge crane will today lift the new pavilion of the Urdd National Eisteddfod into its position on the Eisteddfod site in the grounds of the town’s Ysgol Brynhyfryd school. The pavilion plays a major role during the week of the Eisteddfod ( 29 May - 3 June) with competitions and concerts taking place there throughout the event. The new pavilion has 1,600 seats. Its design will ensure that the occupant of every seat will be able to see the Eisteddfod stage clearly. Says the Urdd’s site manager, Ian Carter, “Those visiting the Eisteddfod this year will see major improvements within the new pavilion, with a better view of the stage from each seat. The work of erecting the pavilion starts this week and it’s a bit of a challenge as the new pavilion is larger than the old one. You need an extensive area of flat land to be able to erect it – the pavilion measures 40 metres by 60 metres – and we’re all looking forward to seeing the pavilion up and ready for action.” The pavilion’s design incorporates a large space above the stage which is useful technically as it means the lights needed will not impede the view of the stage at all. There’s also a large storage space at each side of the stage which is useful for storing sets and props. A television studio is located at the back of the pavilion, together with a sponsors suite which looks out over the Eisteddfod field and beyond to the beautiful landscape of the Vale of Clwyd. Those competing at the Eisteddfod this year will have everything on hand on the field itself as Eisteddfod director Siân Eirian, explains: “Once again we’re able to hold all the preliminary rounds on the field, the majority of them at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, which is absolutely great for the competitors. We’re very grateful for the full cooperation of Denbighshire County Council, the head and teachers of Ysgol Brynhyfryd and the landowners of Maes Llan and Whitegates. Thanks to them and a dedicated band of enthusiastic volunteers, I’m confident that the Eisteddfod in Ruthin will be an Eisteddfod to remember.” Additional Information: Please contact: Manon Wyn, Marketing and PR Officer, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Llanbadarn Rd, Aberystwyth, 01970 613115, manonwyn@urdd.org PHOTO SHOOT: Please note that a photo shoot has been organised on the Eisteddfod field between mid-day and 3.00pm on Thursday 11 May, when the crane will be hoisting the Pavilion into place.
